Nimbits On Android

Today we released an interface to Nimbits for Android Based Phones: Nimbits Data Logger. Search for Nimbits in the Google App Store and Install away - it's free! Phones Like the Google Nexus One and Verizon Droid all run the Android Operating System and can therefore run Nimbits Data Logger.

The Nimbits Data Logger allows you to view categories and data points that you set up at app.nimbits.com and get the current value of your data points, see a simple chart of the last 10 values records, and record a new value for a point.

When you record a new value, it is saved back to the Google Cloud Infrastructure and any one viewing that point's value (in spreadsheets, other applications, Visio diagrams etc) will see the changes.

Here is a screen shot of my list of catagories, and viewing my TempF data point. Enjoy!

  1. I can't change the server to myappid.appspot.com - or at least the change doesn't stick. Once I hit "refesh all" after the server change, it still pulls from app.nimbits.com. I do have Nimbits installed on Google Apps, so not sure why it isn't working on the phone.

  2. Hi Joel,

Yes, you should be able to point the android app at your appspot instance and see your server's data. Thanks for bringing this to our attention - there is a bug at work here. We'll be posting an update to the market place soon. - Ben

  3. That would be great - seems like the field where you enter in the new server address just needs an "OK" button to complete the change (at least from a UI perspective).

I'm successfully reading a temperature from a single wire device on my Arduino, and then displaying that on a webpage hosted by the Arduino itself.

Using a BlackWidow from AsyncLabs to put all this together. Once I figure out how to POST a value to Nimbits from the Arduino, it should allow me to view the temperature from anywhere I have a connection (including the Android).

  4. Check out the latest posting on a new version of Android for Nimbits http://nimbits.blogspot.com/2010/12/nimbits-android-update.html

It has a lot of fixes and enhancements. You'll want to upgrade your server to 3.0.5 to support the new version. You can actually toggle between servers in this version. - Ben
